Tri-State Regional Rail

Invest in Commuter Rail and overcome political and policy hurdles to transform it into Regional Rail — a seamless, frequent, accessible network that serves as the high-capacity backbone for cross-regional trips.

  • Run frequent service all day, seven days a week to serve all types of trips, not just 9-to-5 Manhattan commuters.

  • Electrify all remaining portions of regional rail lines where trains use diesel engines, reducing operating costs and speeding up trips.

  • Invest in high-level platforms for level boarding and other ADA accessibility upgrades where needed in order to better serve those with limited mobility, improve safety, and speed up trips.

  • Reform infrastructure maintenance practices so most work occurs during nights and weekends to increase reliability and speed trips.

  • Eliminate major bottlenecks where track configurations limit train throughput and complicate operations in order to increase capacity, improve service reliability, and reduce travel times.

  • Improve organization for rail operations, fare management, and staffing.
